Archives: Quick AS3 Drop-down Menu

One of my professors had us make a blog and post our assignments for him to grade. I thought it was an ingenious idea because the file system we used in college was such a pain and you couldn't even access it from home. A few of the posts used to get quite a bit of traffic so I thought I would repost them from time to time.

This is just a quick and dirty drop-down menu using AS3 and the timeline in Flash. Not the prettiest way to make a menu but it works!

New Beginnings

I have been wanting to start up a new blog for some time. I wasn't sure what I would blog about as I haven't had any ongoing projects lately. I thought it would be a prime time to start working on my web site, challenging myself to learn new things to build it, and blogging about the process as I go. Currently I have standard knowledge of xHTML/CSS and very little Java Script and PHP.

I'm hoping to gain a more in-depth knowledge of CSS 3 as well as become familiar with the upcoming HTML 5. You'll notice I haven't included Flash at all. I personally don't like Flash. I've had formal training in AS3 and Flash, you'll find it in my portfolio (eventually when I add it to the site), but I won't be using Flash at all here. I'm a strong believer in accessibility and Flash just well.. isn't.

My Plans

I'm looking to take my current design for Dianarobi.com and building it out, piece by piece, in HTML, CSS, and potentially JQuery. Here's the current design and you can check out the whole process on the Flickr set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dianarobi/sets/72157614163496726/
